New images released by Peel Regional Police show murder suspect Jordan Sangwin looking relaxed and smiling just three days after the alleged killing of his parents. The 46-year-old, wanted on two counts of first-degree murder, has evaded capture for 19 days and is believed to be hiding in the High Park area of Toronto.
The photographs, taken on June 21 at an undisclosed location in Etobicoke, show Sangwin wearing a black designer T-shirt with a red and white insignia, shorts, and a small cut visible on the inside of his left knee. The images are clearer than previous ones and suggest he is not in distress despite being wanted for the brutal slayings.
Details of the Crime and Investigation
Carol Sangwin, 70, and Garwood (Gary) Sangwin, 71, were found with blunt force trauma at their Briarwood Avenue home in Mississauga on June 18 and later died in hospital. Their son, Jordan Sangwin, is the prime suspect. According to Peel Homicide Inspector Mike Mavity, extensive searches have been conducted in the Morningside Avenue and South Kingsway area, as well as inside High Park itself. “We believe he has been hiding out and surviving by living outside and getting food and water from the land or garbage cans,” Mavity said. Sangwin has not been seen using public transit, but there have been reported sightings.
Public Warning and Safety Precautions
Police describe Sangwin as white, medium build, with short salt-and-pepper hair, clean-shaven, and last seen wearing a grey long-sleeved shirt, dark shorts, and carrying a black duffle bag. He is known to frequent the Lakeshore Road area of Mississauga. Both Peel and Toronto Police have warned the public not to approach him. “Do not approach,” police urge. “Call 911 immediately if seen.”
Sangwin has no known criminal past, but there have been prior interactions with police at his parents’ home. He is believed to be in between jobs and comfortable around the shores of Lake Ontario. It is thought he walked from Mississauga to Toronto after the murders. Saturday will mark 10 days since his last confirmed sighting, but police continue to work diligently to bring him into custody. “He has shown a desire to not be caught, so the public and police have to be very careful,” said Inspector Mavity.
