Justice Krista Zerr of the Court of King's Bench in Saskatoon has reserved her sentencing decision for Kenneth Braun to September 11. The 70-year-old former massage therapist was first arrested and charged in June 2022, and a jury found him guilty in November 2025 of five counts of sexual assault involving female clients between 2010 and 2021.
Crown and defence present opposing sentences
During Friday's sentencing submissions, Crown prosecutor Lana Morelli argued for a four-year prison term, emphasizing the seriousness of the crimes. In contrast, defence lawyer Jay Watson requested a conditional sentence of two years less a day, which would allow Braun to serve his time in the community. Watson cited Braun's low risk to reoffend, his age, and his health as mitigating factors.
The courtroom was filled with supporters of both the victims and Braun. Three victims read impact statements, with two becoming emotional and wiping away tears; crying was also heard in the gallery.
Publication ban and trial details
A court-ordered publication ban prevents the release of victims' names and evidence from the trial to protect the integrity of Braun's upcoming trial set for November. Historical information that could potentially taint a jury pool is also not being published. Braun was convicted of offences committed between 2010 and 2021, while jurors acquitted him on a sixth count.
At the conclusion of the hearing, Justice Zerr asked Braun if he wished to address the court. Standing in the prisoner's box, Braun stated that while there were many things he would like to say, “it is too late.”
