Ontario Provincial Police have launched a public appeal to identify a dangerous wrong-way driver whose reckless actions on a major highway were captured in alarming dashcam footage last week. The incident occurred on Highway 403 in Brantford, creating what authorities describe as a terrifying situation for other motorists.
Highway 403 Wrong-Way Driving Incident
The OPP's West Region division released social media footage showing a red pickup truck traveling westbound in the right-hand eastbound lane of Highway 403. This dangerous maneuver took place on Thursday, March 26, 2026, at approximately 5:20 p.m. between Wayne Gretzky Parkway and Garden Avenue in Brantford.
"A very scary incident on Highway 403," the OPP stated in their social media post, emphasizing the potential danger posed by the wrong-way driver. Police credit the quick reactions of nearby drivers for preventing what could have been catastrophic collisions.
"Thanks to quick reactions from nearby drivers, no injuries or collisions were reported," the OPP confirmed in their official statement. Authorities are urging anyone with information about the vehicle or additional dashcam footage to contact them directly or reach out to Crime Stoppers anonymously.
Separate Violent Incidents in Waterloo Region
Cambridge Stabbing Leads to Multiple Charges
In a separate development, Waterloo Regional Police have charged a 36-year-old man following a stabbing incident earlier this month in Cambridge. The charges stem from a call received on March 18 at approximately 9:45 p.m. regarding a stabbing at a residence in the Concession and Christopher Streets area.
Police discovered a 25-year-old man with non-life-threatening injuries at the scene. The victim was transported to an out-of-region hospital for medical treatment. Following an investigation, authorities arrested an unnamed suspect on March 20 and filed multiple charges including:
- Assault with a weapon
- Carrying a concealed weapon
- Assault causing bodily harm
- Robbery
- Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
- Breach of probation
Weapon Threats Near Wilfrid Laurier University
Waterloo Regional Police also responded to another weapons-related incident on Saturday near Wilfrid Laurier University. Officers were called to the University Avenue East and Marshall Street area at approximately 2:50 p.m. regarding a dispute involving a 30-year-old Waterloo man.
According to police reports, the suspect allegedly brandished a knife and threatened both officers and another individual during the confrontation. The emergency response team safely took the man into custody several hours later without further incident.
The unidentified suspect faces multiple charges including assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, and uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm.
These incidents highlight ongoing public safety concerns in southwestern Ontario communities, with authorities actively investigating each case while reminding citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to local law enforcement agencies.
