MADD Edmonton & Area Chapter, in partnership with the RCMP, launched the Crashed Car Campaign on June 24, 2026, at Blackjack’s Roadhouse in Nisku. The campaign features a severely damaged vehicle displayed prominently to serve as a stark reminder of the consequences of impaired driving.
A Visual Warning Against Impaired Driving
The wrecked car, which was involved in a fatal collision caused by a drunk driver, will be stationed at various locations throughout the summer. MADD Edmonton officials hope the visceral display will deter people from getting behind the wheel while under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
“None of us can escape this,” said a MADD Edmonton spokesperson during the launch. “This car is a symbol of the devastation that impaired driving causes. We want everyone who sees it to think twice before making a choice that could end a life.”
Community and Police Collaboration
RCMP members were present at the event, emphasizing the ongoing enforcement efforts to combat impaired driving. The campaign aligns with increased police patrols and checkstops planned for the summer months, particularly around major events like the FIFA World Cup and local festivals.
“Impaired driving remains a leading cause of preventable deaths on our roads,” said an RCMP officer at the scene. “We support MADD’s campaign because every visual reminder helps save lives.”
Impact and Call to Action
According to MADD Canada, impaired driving kills on average four people every day in Canada. The Crashed Car Campaign aims to reduce that number by sparking conversations and encouraging people to plan ahead for safe rides home.
“If this campaign prevents even one crash, it’s worth it,” the MADD spokesperson added. “We urge everyone to never drive impaired and to speak up if someone else is about to.”
