Former President Barack Obama and former first lady Michelle Obama were joined by Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, U2 frontman Bono, and music legend Stevie Wonder at the dedication ceremony of the Obama Presidential Center in Chicago on Wednesday, June 17, 2026.
A Star-Studded Event
The trio helped the Obamas officially open the museum, which honors the legacy of the 44th president. The event was attended by administration and campaign alumni, who were surprised by the Obamas on stage.
Trudeau, a long-time friend of the Obamas, spoke about the importance of the center as a symbol of hope and progress. Bono and Stevie Wonder performed musical tributes, adding to the celebratory atmosphere.
Obama Presidential Center
The center, located in Jackson Park on Chicago's South Side, features a museum, public library, and community spaces. It aims to inspire visitors to take action in their own communities, continuing Obama's message of change.
The dedication ceremony marked the culmination of years of planning and construction, with the center now open to the public.
