CF Montréal Trades Dante Sealy to Colorado for $2.5M

In a significant midweek move, CF Montréal has transferred midfielder Dante Sealy to the Colorado Rapids. The deal, announced by the club, could see Montréal receive up to $2.5 million in General Allocation Money (GAM) in return for the player's contract.

The Financial Details of the Sealy Trade

The transaction is structured with both guaranteed and conditional payments. Colorado will send $1.15 million in 2026 GAM and $750,000 in 2027 GAM to Montréal as a base. An additional $600,000 in conditional General Allocation Money is also part of the agreement, pushing the potential total value to the $2.5 million figure.

Furthermore, CF Montréal has secured a valuable future clause. The club may retain a sell-on percentage should Sealy be transferred to another team for an amount above a specified threshold in the future. Sealy's contract with Montréal had one year remaining, plus an option year, which Colorado will now assume.

Dante Sealy's Brief but Productive Stint in Montreal

Dante Sealy's tenure with the Quebec club lasted just a single season. The Brooklyn, New York-born player, who represents Trinidad and Tobago at the international level, signed with CF Montréal on February 6, 2025. He arrived after spending four seasons with FC Dallas.

During the 2025 MLS campaign, Sealy proved to be an impactful addition. He appeared in 28 of the team's 30 matches, logging 2,426 minutes of play. His offensive contribution was notable, finishing the season with nine goals and two assists.

Roster Movement Continues: Matias Coccaro Departs

This trade follows another roster decision made by the club just a day earlier. On Monday, CF Montréal announced the termination of forward Matias Coccaro's contract, effective January 1. The move was made by mutual agreement.

The Uruguayan striker was originally acquired from Argentina's CA Huracan on January 31, 2024. He spent the 2025 season on loan to Mexico's Atlas FC. During his time in Montreal in 2024, Coccaro scored four goals in 902 minutes of MLS action.

The trade of Dante Sealy represents a major financial transaction for CF Montréal as the team continues to shape its roster for the upcoming season. The influx of significant allocation money provides the club with increased flexibility to pursue new signings and manage its salary cap, while the departure of Sealy removes a proven offensive contributor from the lineup.
