Butter Cowboy Sculpture
Ryan Kurylo and his wife Tara carved a large sculpture of a rider on horseback out of butter for Ghazaleh Avarzamani's new exhibition titled 'Churn, Earn, Burn and then Return', to be shown at Contemporary Calgary from June 4 to Nov. 8, 2026. The exhibition features multiple elements, including the butter sculpture.
Enjoying the Outdoors
A group of people played a lunch-hour soccer match in Prince's Island Park on Friday, May 29, 2026. Meanwhile, a mother duck and her ducklings were seen swimming in a Calgary-area wetland.
4-H on Parade
The Calgary Stampede's 4-H on Parade, presented by Brandt at the Nutrien Western Event Centre, featured the largest sheep show in its 50-year history. A record-setting 18 flock entries brought together more than 300 lambs, 105 members, and 10 regional 4-H clubs for this milestone event on Friday, May 29, 2026. Bree Renpfer and Ruby, the 2026 Grand Champion Yearling Ewe, were among the participants.
Saturday
Bathtub Bikes' My First Bike YYC Giveaway
Bathtub Bikes held its sixth annual My First Bike YYC kids bike giveaway on Saturday, May 30, 2026. Store owner Adam Rhind started the event to give back to the community, giving away 40-50 bicycles every year to local families at no cost. Volunteers, including Thomas Sawyer and Jhumari Sarino, helped kids test and adjust bikes. Two-year-old Finley, with help from her dad, and sisters Bella and Olivia were among the children trying out bikes.
Strength of Stairs Fundraiser
The Calgary Military Family Resource Centre held its third annual Stairs of Strength fundraiser at McHugh Bluff stairs on Saturday, May 30, 2026. Lieutenant-Colonel Sandy Cooper posed with volunteers and climbed the stairs alongside soldiers. Ayla Wisby and Gwendolyn Reinthaler celebrated their achievement during the event.
Calgary Orchid Show
The Foothills Orchid Society's 2026 Calgary Orchid Show was held at the Genesis Centre on Saturday, May 30, 2026. Visitors enjoyed the display of blooming orchids.
