Huskie Women's Basketball Dominates at 10-0 Before Holiday Break
Undefeated Huskie Women's Basketball Hits 10-0 Mark

The University of Saskatchewan Huskies women's basketball team has achieved a remarkable perfect record as they head into the holiday break, securing their tenth consecutive victory in dominating fashion against the visiting Brandon Bobcats over the weekend.

Perfect Record Maintained

The Huskies women's basketball squad remains undefeated following an impressive pair of victories that showcased their offensive firepower. On Friday night, the team demonstrated their strength with an 84-51 win, led by Maya Findall who scored a game-high 17 points.

The following night witnessed an even more explosive performance as Saskatchewan broke the 100-point barrier, crushing the Bobcats 114-50. Logan Reider emerged as the standout performer, leading both teams with 23 points in the commanding victory.

Conference Standings and Team Position

With their flawless 10-0 record, the Huskies find themselves in a four-way tie for first place in the Canada West Prairie Division. They share this top position with the Alberta Pandas, Calgary Dinos, and Regina Cougars, setting up an exciting second half of the season when play resumes in January.

The men's basketball team experienced a split series against the same Brandon Bobcats opponent. Saskatchewan secured a narrow 102-99 victory on Friday night but fell 85-62 in Saturday's matchup, bringing their season record to 2-8.

Easton Thimm proved consistent for the men's squad, recording 25 points in the first game and 16 points in the second contest as the top scorer for the Huskies on both occasions.

Wrestling Success on Home Turf

While basketball dominated the weekend headlines, Huskie wrestlers also delivered outstanding performances in front of hometown crowds. The university hosted both the Huskie Duals on Friday and the Huskie Open on Saturday, with multiple athletes claiming victory.

During the Duals competition, Donovan Neudorf (65-kilograms), Nathan Kowal (68-kg), Takis Sembalerus (72-kg), and Owen McGillivray (125-kg) earned victories for the men's team. The women's squad saw wins from Elizabeth Chapman (50-kg), Abby Wolff (56-kg), Myah Clatney (65-kg), and Myah Phillips (83-kg).

The success continued into Saturday's Open tournament, where both Huskie wrestling teams secured first place overall. Gold medal performances came from Neudorf, Davyd Dzyuba (61-kg), and Matthew Yong (100-kg) on the men's side, while Wolff, Phillips, and Sierra Mullin (53-kg) claimed top honors for the women.

Hockey Teams Experience Mixed Results

The Huskies hockey programs encountered varying fortunes during their weekend matchups. The men's team, playing at home against the UBC Thunderbirds, earned a hard-fought 3-2 shootout victory on Friday night. However, Saturday brought a different outcome as strong first and second periods from the visitors resulted in a 7-4 win for UBC.

This series split moves the men's hockey team to a 9-4-1 record, placing them third in the Canada West East Division standings as they enter the break.

The women's hockey team faced challenges during their road trip to Vancouver, suffering two losses against UBC. The Huskies fell 4-1 on Friday night and were shut out 1-0 on Saturday. These results drop the women's team to a 5-6-1-2 record, also good for third place in the East Division.

All University of Saskatchewan teams will now enjoy the holiday break before returning to Canada West action in January, with the undefeated women's basketball team looking to maintain their perfect record when competition resumes.
