Peel Regional Police have arrested four individuals in connection with the 2023 fatal shooting of 29-year-old father Bryan Alexander Lara-Alvarez in Mississauga, with two suspects charged with first-degree murder and two others facing gun-related charges. The arrests, announced on June 26, 2026, come after a complex investigation that spanned more than three years.
Victim Targeted in His Vehicle
Lara-Alvarez, a father of two children, was shot to death while sitting in his car near his home at 7:36 p.m. on Monday, March 20, 2023, in the Dream Crest Road and Alicante Street neighbourhood of Mississauga. Despite life-saving measures, he died at the scene. According to police, a grey, four-door, newer-model SUV was observed fleeing the area following the incident.
“We never stopped working on it,” said Peel Police Homicide Inspector Mike Mavity. The investigation faced challenges, but detectives remained persistent. “We ran into some challenges,” Mavity noted, emphasizing that the case was never considered cold despite periods of little progress.
Suspects Identified Through Technology
Detective Constable Aman Bhalla led the investigation, which leveraged advancements in technology and public surveillance to identify suspects. “Following a complex and extensive investigation, investigators identified several suspects,” Peel Police stated. Search and arrest warrants led to the seizure of a firearm and the arrest of four individuals.
The accused are: Shamba Tull, 22, of Toronto, and Shammar Osbourne, 22, of Wasaga Beach, each charged with first-degree murder. Talena Farquharson-Miller, 23, and Ahmed Hassan, 23, both of Toronto, face charges of possession of a loaded prohibited or restricted firearm and knowledge of unauthorized possession of a firearm. All four remain in custody pending bail hearings and are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
Community Impact and Police Commitment
Lara-Alvarez was described by his family as a beloved father, son, and brother. “To know Bryan was to love him,” his family said. “Bryan was a great soul. He would light up the room with his smile and contagious laugh.” He had no known criminal affiliations, making the motive for his targeted killing a mystery that police worked tirelessly to solve.
Peel Police Chief Nishan Duraiappah praised the resolution: “These arrests mark a resolution in a case that deeply impacted our community. We recognize the lasting effects that violence has on families, neighbours, and the broader public. Peel Regional Police remains steadfast in our commitment to public safety, and we will continue working diligently to ensure those responsible for violent acts are brought before the courts.”
Ongoing Investigation
The alleged connections between the accused and possible motives remain under active investigation. The arrests, while significant, are just the beginning of the judicial process. Police have recovered the alleged murder weapon and continue to probe the case. The community, which had long awaited answers, has welcomed the developments.
