Canada Day celebrations in Toronto this year will feature fireworks at 10 p.m. from Ashbridges Bay and Centennial Park, along with numerous community events and parades. The city has released its annual guide to what’s open and closed on July 1, 2026.
Fireworks and Major Events
The main fireworks display will begin at 10 p.m. at Ashbridges Bay in the east end and Centennial Park in Etobicoke. The City of Toronto also hosts a daytime celebration at Mel Lastman Square in North York, featuring live music and family activities from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Other community events include the Scarborough Canada Day Parade at 9 a.m. along Kingston Road, and the Toronto Islands Canada Day celebration with free ferry service from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m.
What’s Open and Closed
All Toronto Public Library branches will be closed. Canada Post will not deliver mail. Banks and government offices are closed. The Toronto Zoo, Royal Ontario Museum, and Art Gallery of Ontario will be open with regular hours. TTC will operate on a holiday schedule, with subway service starting at 6 a.m. and running until 1:30 a.m. GO Transit will run on a Sunday schedule. Most grocery stores and major retail chains will be open, but check individual locations as some may have reduced hours. LCBO and Beer Store locations will be open, though some may have adjusted hours. According to the City of Toronto, “All City of Toronto administrative offices will be closed on July 1.”
Safety and Travel Tips
Police remind the public to plan ahead for road closures around major event sites. The Toronto Police Service advises against using drones near fireworks displays, as they are prohibited. “We want everyone to have a safe and enjoyable Canada Day,” said Toronto Police spokesperson Constable David Hopkinson.
