Parade Details and Route

The parade begins at 9 a.m. MDT along a 4.5-kilometer route starting at the intersection of 9th Avenue and 1st Street S.E., winding through the downtown core before ending at Stampede Park. Organizers expect over 300,000 attendees to line the streets, with additional viewers watching from home via live broadcast.

This year's parade features 110 entries, including marching bands, equestrian groups, floats, and cultural performers. Notable participants include the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police Musical Ride, and Indigenous dance troupes representing local First Nations.

Festival Highlights and Economic Impact

The Stampede, running from July 3 to July 12, includes chuckwagon races, a midway, concerts, and agricultural exhibitions. According to the Calgary Stampede organization, the event generates over $400 million in economic activity for the province annually. In 2025, attendance reached 1.2 million visitors, with a record-breaking $10 million in food sales.

"The parade is the heartbeat of the Stampede," said Stampede CEO Dana Peers in a statement. "It brings together Calgarians and visitors from around the world to celebrate our western heritage and community spirit."

Safety and Logistics

The Calgary Police Service will implement road closures starting at 5 a.m. on parade day, with major arteries such as 6th Avenue and Macleod Trail affected. Public transit will operate on a modified schedule, with the CTrain providing free service to and from Stampede Park throughout the festival. Emergency services will have increased presence to ensure public safety.

Weather forecasts predict sunny skies with a high of 26°C, ideal conditions for the outdoor event. Organizers encourage attendees to bring sunscreen and water, as temperatures are expected to climb during the morning.
