The Barrie Police Service has announced a stronger police presence over the Canada Day long weekend, aiming to ensure public safety during the holiday period. The increased patrols will focus on impaired driving, crowd management, and rapid response to any incidents.
Enhanced Enforcement Measures
According to police officials, additional officers will be deployed across the city, particularly in areas with high pedestrian and vehicle traffic. Radar speed enforcement and RIDE programs will be in effect to deter impaired driving. “We want everyone to enjoy the long weekend safely,” said a police spokesperson. “Our goal is to prevent incidents before they happen.”
Community Response
Residents have expressed support for the initiative, noting that increased visibility of officers can deter crime and promote a sense of security. Local businesses also welcome the move, as the long weekend typically draws large crowds to Barrie’s waterfront and parks.
The police urge the public to plan ahead, designate a sober driver, and report any suspicious activity. The enhanced presence will run from Friday, June 26 through Monday, June 29, 2026.
