Ottawa police have charged a 63-year-old man with first-degree murder in the disappearance of his 64-year-old wife, classifying the crime as a femicide. Viktor Konokhov was arrested Friday and is scheduled to appear in court later that day, the Ottawa Police Service homicide squad announced.
Olga Konokhov was reported missing by police last week after last being in contact with someone in January 2026. Police described the incident as suspicious. Her remains have not been located, and the investigation remains ongoing, according to a police release.
Second femicide of 2026
Police have classified the killing as a femicide, which OPS defines as “the misogynist killing of women and girls because of their gender, overwhelmingly committed by men.” It is Ottawa’s second femicide and sixth homicide of the year.
“Olga was reported missing after last being in contact with someone in January 2026,” police said. “Her remains have not been located, and the investigation remains ongoing.”
