LaSalle Police Lay Stunt Driving Charges Against Two Drivers Over Weekend
LaSalle police have charged two drivers with stunt driving offenses following separate incidents over the weekend, with one motorist allegedly traveling at more than double the posted speed limit. The enforcement actions highlight ongoing concerns about dangerous driving behaviors in the community.
First Incident: Excessive Speeding on Front Road
Officers conducting traffic enforcement on Saturday afternoon stopped a vehicle on Front Road just after 4 p.m. According to police reports, radar captured the vehicle allegedly traveling at 102 kilometres per hour in a designated 50 km/h zone. This represents a significant violation of speed regulations, posing serious risks to public safety.
Second Incident: Dangerous Maneuvers in Business Parking Lot
Later that same Saturday, a LaSalle police officer on patrol observed a pickup truck performing multiple "donuts" in the parking lot of a business located in the 1500 block of Talbot Road. This dangerous driving maneuver involves the vehicle traveling in tight circles while the rear wheels often produce smoke from burning rubber. Police noted that two passengers were present in the back of the truck's bed during this incident, though fortunately no injuries were reported.
Charges and Consequences for Drivers
A 21-year-old female and a 21-year-old male, both residents of Windsor, have been charged with stunt driving in connection with these incidents. The female driver faces an additional charge of failing to surrender her driver's licence when requested by authorities.
Both drivers have received immediate administrative penalties, including:
- A 30-day suspension of their driver's licences
- Impoundment of their vehicles for 14 days
The individuals must now appear in court to answer to the formal charges laid against them. These enforcement measures reflect the serious consequences that accompany stunt driving offenses under Ontario's traffic laws.
LaSalle police continue to emphasize the importance of responsible driving behaviors and regular traffic enforcement initiatives to maintain road safety throughout the community. The weekend incidents serve as a reminder of the potential dangers associated with excessive speeding and reckless driving maneuvers in both residential and commercial areas.
