A dump truck driver in British Columbia is facing serious charges after Royal Canadian Mounted Police say he attempted an audacious deception during a routine traffic stop: he allegedly impersonated his own brother, who was sitting right beside him in the vehicle.
The Deception Unravels
The incident occurred on the morning of June 26, when RCMP officers from the Upper Fraser Valley Regional Detachment conducted a traffic stop on a dump truck near McCallum Road. According to police, the driver provided identification that belonged to his brother.
The situation became particularly unusual when officers realized the man whose identity was being used was actually present in the passenger seat. The genuine brother was sitting mere feet away as the driver attempted to pass himself off using the brother's credentials.
Multiple Charges Laid
Following an investigation, RCMP have charged 34-year-old Kulwinder Singh Sohi with multiple offenses. The charges include obstructing a peace officer and driving while prohibited.
Police confirmed that the traffic stop was part of a commercial vehicle enforcement operation targeting unsafe commercial vehicles in the area. What began as a routine safety check quickly escalated into a criminal investigation when the driver's deception was uncovered.
