Montreal Canadiens great Yvan Cournoyer, infectious disease specialist Dr. Caroline Quach-Thanh, and former senator the Honourable Charlie Watt are among eight Quebecers appointed to the Order of Canada on June 26, 2026.
Notable Appointees
Yvan Cournoyer, known as the "Roadrunner," played 16 seasons with the Canadiens, winning 10 Stanley Cups and scoring 407 goals. Dr. Caroline Quach-Thanh is a leading expert in infection control and vaccine safety. Charlie Watt, a former Liberal senator, has been a prominent advocate for Inuit rights and Indigenous self-governance.
Other Quebec Recipients
The full list of eight Quebecers includes artists, academics, and community leaders. The Governor General's office announced the appointments as part of a broader list of 78 new members to the Order of Canada, one of the country's highest civilian honors.
According to the Governor General's office, the awards recognize outstanding achievement, dedication to community, and service to the nation. The investiture ceremony will take place at a later date.
