A Winnipeg homeowner's doorbell camera captured the moment thieves stole his off-road vehicle on a trailer in broad daylight. The theft occurred on June 28, 2026, and the victim, Paul Bulawka, shared the footage with CTV News Winnipeg.
Bulawka said the thieves pulled up to his property, hooked up the trailer carrying his off-road vehicle, and drove away within minutes. The entire incident was recorded by his doorbell camera. “It’s gone,” Bulawka said, describing his shock at the brazen theft.
Details of the theft
The video shows a vehicle backing up to the trailer, quickly attaching it, and then driving off. Bulawka estimated the total value of the stolen property at around $15,000. He reported the theft to Winnipeg police, who are investigating.
Bulawka said he had owned the off-road vehicle for several years and used it for recreational purposes. The theft has left him feeling violated and frustrated. “You work hard for your things, and someone just comes and takes them,” he said.
Impact on the community
The theft has raised concerns among Winnipeg residents about property crime. According to Winnipeg police, vehicle thefts have been on the rise in the city. In 2025, there were over 1,200 vehicle thefts reported, a 15% increase from the previous year.
Police advise homeowners to take precautions such as installing security cameras, using steering wheel locks, and parking vehicles in garages when possible. They also recommend marking valuable items with identifying information to aid recovery.
Bulawka hopes that sharing his story will encourage others to be vigilant. “If my video helps even one person prevent this from happening to them, then it’s worth it,” he said.
