Rep. Sheri Biggs (R-S.C.) is defending President Donald Trump's military engagement in Iran, telling Americans who do not support the administration's policies to leave the country. During an appearance on Newsmax's "National Report" on Monday, Biggs was asked whether the ongoing conflict in Iran could overshadow the upcoming midterm elections if Americans do not see relief from high gas prices and other economic pressures.
Biggs: 'America First' in Iran Policy
Biggs asserted that the primary concern is preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons. "The bottom line is that Iran cannot have nuclear weapons," she said. "President Trump is putting America first, and it's not about politics. This is about the security of our nation. The hypocrisy is overwhelming." She criticized Democrats for opposing Trump's approach while supporting similar actions under previous administrations. "It's OK for a Democratic president to address issues in Iran, but not for President Trump or the Republican majority? That's complete hypocrisy. We have to put America first. As I've said before, if you don't love this country, get out."
Negotiations and Strategy
When asked about ongoing U.S.-Iran negotiations to end the war, Biggs emphasized the complexity of the situation. "Iran is so complex, and I think the average person doesn't realize that. President Trump is maneuvering this carefully because he wants to make good decisions," she explained. She argued that Trump has access to information not available to the public, stating, "The American people elected President Trump for a reason — because he has the backbone and intelligence to get things done."
On Monday, Iran suspended indirect negotiations with the U.S., protesting what it claims are ceasefire violations by the U.S. and Israel, according to an Iranian news outlet linked to the Revolutionary Guard Corps.
