Michigan State Police are asking for the public's help after the body of a baby less than one month old was discovered inside a portable toilet at the Electric Forest music festival in Rothbury, Michigan, over the weekend.
Discovery and Investigation
A bathroom company employee found the infant's remains during routine maintenance on Sunday morning, the final day of the four-day festival. The child was less than a month old, according to police. Authorities have not yet disclosed the baby's sex, cause of death, or whether any parent or guardian has been identified.
An autopsy was completed on Monday, and police said they would provide updates once investigators review the results. Michigan State Police Lt. Pat Agema stated on Tuesday that the death has not been classified as a homicide at this point.
Festival Background and Location
The Electric Forest festival, which began Thursday, typically draws tens of thousands of attendees for electronic dance music and jam bands. Most festivalgoers camp at the 2,000-acre Double JJ Resort near the shores of Lake Michigan. The body was found in the festival's camping area.
Police are seeking any possible witnesses or individuals with relevant information about the incident.
Organizers' Response
Festival organizers shared the Michigan State Police post about the death on Monday, expressing their sorrow. They wrote, "It causes us so much pain to have to share this difficult news with you." Organizers joined the police in urging festival attendees to assist with the investigation. They did not immediately return a message seeking comment on Tuesday.
State police have not provided further details as the investigation continues.
