Air Canada Unveils Major Winter Network Expansion with New Sun Destinations
Air Canada has announced a significant expansion of its winter vacation offerings for the 2026-27 season, introducing several new destinations and enhanced services across its global network. The airline revealed plans that include exclusive non-stop flights to Tenerife in the Canary Islands, marking the only direct service between North America and this popular archipelago.
Exclusive Non-Stop Service to Tenerife
The flagship addition to Air Canada's winter schedule is the introduction of non-stop flights from both Toronto and Montréal to Tenerife. This service represents the only direct connection between North America and the Canary Islands, providing Canadian travelers with unprecedented access to this volcanic island destination known for its year-round warm weather and diverse attractions.
"We are further cementing Air Canada's global network as one of the most far-reaching from the North American continent," stated Mark Galardo, Executive Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer at Air Canada. "The addition of Tenerife reflects our continued ambition to offer our customers and Aeroplan members an exceptional, diversified array of unique Air Canada destinations."
New Destinations Across Latin America
Beyond the Canary Islands expansion, Air Canada is introducing four new destinations to its network:
- Roatán, Honduras
- Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic
- Mérida, Mexico
- Mazatlán, Mexico
The airline is also significantly expanding its presence in sun markets from Canada's West coast, with additional routes to Central America, the Caribbean, and Mexico. This expansion includes new non-stop services to Costa Rica and Mexico from Vancouver, enabled by growing A220 and Air Canada Rouge aircraft bases.
Enhanced Vacation Packages and Regional Services
Air Canada Vacations will offer expanded hotel and cruise options to complement the new flight services. The airline is also introducing exciting new leisure options for customers in Edmonton, Winnipeg, Quebec City, and Halifax, broadening access to winter sun destinations across the country.
"Air Canada continues to deepen its industry-leading network, proudly connecting Canada globally," Galardo concluded, noting that these additions complement previously announced new services to Sapporo, Japan and Quito, Ecuador, as well as new leisure options from Calgary to Mexico.
Strategic Importance for Destination Partners
The new Tenerife service has been welcomed by tourism officials on the island. Dimple Melwani, CEO of Tenerife Tourism, commented: "The arrival of Air Canada with direct flights from Toronto and Montreal is a strategic boost for Tenerife, consolidating our destination as a global leader and bringing us closer to a high-value traveler for the island."
Melwani emphasized that this connection provides opportunities to promote Tenerife not only as a vacation destination but also as a hub for business tourism, audiovisual and cultural industries, and cruise tourism with multi-stop itineraries.
All new flights are available for purchase immediately through Air Canada's official website, with vacation packages accessible via Air Canada Vacations. The expansion leverages the next-generation capabilities of Air Canada's incoming A321XLR aircraft fleet, enabling longer-range non-stop services to popular leisure destinations.
