32 Cats Abandoned in Plastic Bins Outside B.C. SPCA, Investigation Launched
32 Cats Left in Plastic Bins at B.C. SPCA, Probe Underway

An alarming case of animal abandonment has prompted an investigation on British Columbia's Sunshine Coast. The B.C. Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) is leading the probe after 32 cats were found left in plastic containers outside one of its facilities.

Discovery of the Felines

The incident occurred on December 5, 2025. Staff at the B.C. SPCA's Sunshine Coast facility in Sechelt arrived to find multiple sealed plastic bins and carriers left unattended. Upon inspection, they discovered the containers held a total of thirty-two cats. The animals were of various ages and breeds, all confined without adequate ventilation, food, or water.

Response and Care for the Animals

SPCA animal protection officers and staff immediately secured the cats and began providing emergency care. The felines were assessed for medical issues, given food and water, and placed in appropriate housing. All 32 cats are now receiving ongoing veterinary care and behavioral support at the facility. While shaken by the ordeal, officials report the animals are in stable condition.

"This was a deeply distressing situation for these animals," said a spokesperson for the B.C. SPCA. "Abandoning animals in this manner is not only cruel but also a serious offense under the law. These cats were left in a dangerous situation with no regard for their wellbeing."

Legal Ramifications and Public Appeal

Abandoning an animal in a manner that causes distress is an offense under the Provincial Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act. The B.C. SPCA's investigation is actively seeking information from the public to identify the person or persons responsible for this act. Authorities are reviewing any available security footage and asking anyone in the Sechelt area with relevant information to come forward.

The SPCA emphasizes that their facilities exist to help animals in need and that surrendering an animal can be done safely and humanely by contacting them directly to make arrangements. This incident has strained the resources of the local shelter, which is now caring for a sudden influx of animals.

The organization is also reminding the public of the importance of spaying and neutering pets to help control the cat population and prevent situations of overwhelmed owners. The investigation continues as officials work to ensure justice for the thirty-two cats left in such perilous conditions.
