A quiet afternoon in Brampton turned to tragedy when a pedestrian was struck by a truck in a collision that has left the victim fighting for his life.
The incident occurred around 2:15 p.m. on Tuesday near the intersection of Steeles Avenue and McLaughlin Road, sending emergency crews scrambling to the scene.
According to Peel Regional Police, the male pedestrian suffered catastrophic injuries described as life-threatening. Paramedics worked frantically at the scene before rushing the victim to a Toronto-area trauma centre, where he remains in critical condition.
Investigation Underway
The Major Collision Bureau has taken charge of the investigation, combing through evidence to determine exactly how this devastating collision occurred. Police have not yet released information about potential factors or whether charges will be laid.
"Our thoughts are with the victim and his family during this incredibly difficult time," a police spokesperson stated during a brief update to media.
Major Roadway Disrupted
The collision caused significant disruption to one of Brampton's key thoroughfares. Steeles Avenue was completely closed in both directions between McLaughlin Road and Bramalea Road as investigators documented the scene and emergency crews worked.
Commuters faced extensive delays during the afternoon rush hour, with police urging drivers to avoid the area and seek alternate routes.
The investigation continues as authorities work to piece together the events leading up to this serious incident.
