Pilot Identified in Saskatchewan Crop Duster Crash
The pilot of a crop duster that crashed near Weyburn, Saskatchewan, has been identified as Evan Hansen, a 32-year-old farmer from the area. The accident occurred on July 8, 2026, near the community of Beaubier, approximately 30 kilometers southeast of Weyburn.
Hansen sustained serious injuries in the crash and was airlifted to a Regina hospital, where he remains in stable condition. A GoFundMe page established to support Hansen and his wife Annika has raised over $50,000 as of July 10.
Details of the Incident
The single-engine Air Tractor AT-502B, used for agricultural spraying, went down in a field around 11:30 AM local time. Witnesses reported seeing the aircraft flying at low altitude before it suddenly descended and crashed. First responders arrived within minutes and extricated Hansen from the wreckage.
The Transportation Safety Board of Canada (TSB) has launched an investigation into the cause of the crash. Investigators are examining the aircraft's maintenance records, the pilot's experience, and weather conditions at the time. Preliminary reports indicate no mechanical issues were noted prior to the flight.
Community Response and Support
The local farming community has rallied around the Hansen family. "Evan is a dedicated farmer and pilot who has been flying for over a decade," said neighbor Mark Thompson. "We're all praying for his full recovery." The GoFundMe campaign, organized by family friend Sarah Johnson, aims to cover medical expenses and support the family during Hansen's recovery.
Hansen's employer, Prairie Air Spray Ltd., released a statement expressing concern for their employee and cooperation with the TSB investigation. "Our thoughts are with Evan and his family during this difficult time," the statement read.
