Jessica Vosk, the acclaimed actor and singer, is poised to reach significant new heights in her career. More than ten years after leaving the corporate world for the stage, she is preparing to originate her first role on Broadway. It was announced that Vosk will star as Cee Cee in the highly anticipated stage musical adaptation of the classic 1988 film "Beaches," a role made famous by Bette Midler.
From Holiday Cheer to Broadway Dreams
The news comes as Vosk wraps up a festive seven-city concert tour across the United States this December. The tour promotes her holiday album, "Sleigh," a 13-track collection featuring classics like "Last Christmas" and collaborations with stars such as Neil Patrick Harris, Pentatonix's Scott Hoying, and Ariana DeBose. For Vosk, this tour is about more than music; it's a mission to provide solace. "Especially in the time that we're going through right now, which I think is a wild dumpster fire, I believe art is the thing that will always be a healer," the 43-year-old said.
The concert series also serves as a celebration of her theatrical journey, featuring songs from her iconic roles. These include Elphaba in "Wicked," Jenna in "Waitress," and her recent performance as Jersey in the Alicia Keys musical "Hell's Kitchen."
A Non-Traditional Path to the Stage
Despite her commanding presence and powerful voice, Vosk's road to Broadway was unconventional. After early experiences in community theatre, she spent her twenties working in investor relations on Wall Street. A series of panic attacks prompted a major life reassessment. She began auditioning while performing at New York open mic nights, leading to her Broadway debut in 2014's "The Bridges of Madison County."
Her career-defining breakthrough came in 2016 when she was cast as Elphaba in the national tour of "Wicked," later reprising the role on Broadway. Her acclaimed concert performances, including sold-out shows at Carnegie Hall, have established her as a formidable talent in the lineage of performers like Bette Midler.
Building a Multifaceted Career and Personal Milestones
Beyond the stage, Vosk has cultivated a relatable public persona through creative side projects. She hosts "Vosk in the City," an unscripted digital series on TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube where she chats with New Yorkers and Broadway peers about everything from pop culture to politics. "I love to — in the same breath — say, 'Let's talk about the "Wicked" movie, but I think Glinda voted for Trump,'" she joked, highlighting her goal to provoke thought and conversation.
She also voices the character Lute in the animated series "Hazbin Hotel," performing the viral song "Gravity" in its second season. On the personal front, Vosk is planning her wedding to Dave Godar for next summer in upstate New York, a relationship that began during a 2023 production of "Chess" in St. Louis.
Looking ahead, the "Beaches" musical is set to begin performances at New York's Majestic Theatre in April 2026, followed by a national tour the next fall. For Jessica Vosk, this role represents the culmination of a daring pivot and a decade of dedication, proving that sometimes the greatest roles are found off Wall Street and on the stage.
