Canadian music legends Randy Bachman and Burton Cummings are officially reuniting as The Guess Who for a highly anticipated concert at Rogers Place in Edmonton on June 10. This marks the first time the iconic duo will perform under the legendary band's name in 23 years, following their recent legal victory to reclaim the moniker.
A Legendary Reunion on Stage
The excitement is palpable for what promises to be a historic night of Canadian rock. "Randy and I are thrilled that our songs have never gone away. That people still want to hear us perform them live," said Burton Cummings, 77. He promises that the band will "go out and honour the music," treating fans to timeless classics like American Woman, These Eyes, No Time, and No Sugar Tonight/New Mother Nature.
Randy Bachman, the 82-year-old frontman of Bachman-Turner Overdrive and a beloved radio host, echoed the enthusiasm. "I'm looking ahead and very excited to be joining up with Burton and touring as The Guess Who again," he stated. "Together we created decades of incredible songs and memories that still stand strong today. Can't wait to sing them with you all soon!"
The Road Back to The Guess Who
The journey to this reunion has been decades in the making. The Guess Who, often called the "Canadian Beatles," were born in Winnipeg in 1965 and became Canada's first superstar band to crack the American market. Their 1970 album, "American Woman," hit No. 1 in both Canada and the United States.
After the band officially broke up in 1975, Bachman and Cummings have toured together numerous times with their collective songs. There have also been partial reunions of the wider band, including a notable appearance at the massive SARSfest in Toronto in 2003. However, this "Takin' it Back Tour" is the first full-fledged tour under The Guess Who banner in over two decades, made possible after they won the legal rights to use the name last year.
How to Get Tickets for the Edmonton Show
The concert announcement is major news for rock fans across Alberta and beyond. The event will be made even more special with a performance by special guest Don Felder, formerly of The Eagles.
General tickets for the Edmonton concert go on sale to the public at 10 a.m. this Friday. Fans are encouraged to act quickly, as this reunion tour is expected to generate significant demand. Tickets can be purchased through the official band website at theguesswho.com.
This concert is not just a performance; it's a celebration of a monumental piece of Canadian music history, finally returning to the stage where it belongs.
