The iconic Field of Crosses memorial returns to Calgary's Memorial Drive, creating a powerful visual tribute to southern Alberta soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice. From November 1st through 11th, thousands of white crosses will stand solemnly along the roadway, each bearing the name, rank, and regiment of a fallen service member.
Daily Dawn Ceremonies and Special Events
The memorial comes alive each morning with touching sunrise ceremonies at 6:45 AM, featuring the poignant sound of bagpipes echoing across the landscape. These daily gatherings provide a quiet moment for reflection and remembrance as the sun rises over the crosses.
Special highlights of this year's schedule include:
- Opening ceremonies on November 1st at 10:00 AM
- Remembrance Day service on November 11th at 10:30 AM
- Daily flag-raising and lowering ceremonies

A Community Tradition of Remembrance
Now in its remarkable 15th year, the Field of Crosses has become an essential part of Calgary's Remembrance Day traditions. The installation spans both sides of Memorial Drive between 3rd Street N.W. and Centre Street, creating an unforgettable display that captures the scale of military sacrifice.

The memorial is accessible to visitors 24 hours a day throughout the 11-day period, allowing for both organized ceremonies and private reflection. Volunteers will be present throughout the day to assist visitors and share stories about the soldiers being honored.
For those unable to visit in person, the crosses will be illuminated throughout the night, creating a breathtaking scene that serves as a constant reminder of the sacrifices made by Alberta's military personnel.
