Rapper Offset Shot at Florida Casino, Stable Condition

Rapper Offset, a former member of the influential hip-hop trio Migos, was shot outside a Florida casino and is in stable condition, according to a spokesperson on Tuesday. The incident occurred on Monday night at the Seminole Hard Rock in Hollywood, just north of Miami, following a fight that led to the shooting.

Details of the Shooting and Arrests

Police reported that the shooting took place at a valet area outside the casino, resulting in one person injured, though the victim was not officially identified. Officers detained two individuals at the scene. One of them, rapper Lil Tjay, whose real name is Tione Jayden Merritt, was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct and operating a vehicle without a valid license.

Lil Tjay's lawyer, Dawn M. Florio, stated that he did not have a gun and was not charged with any weapons-related crimes. He paid his bond and was released on Tuesday afternoon. The 24-year-old rapper, known for his sing-rapping style in New York's South Bronx scene, told reporters upon leaving jail that he was not involved in any fighting.

Offset's Condition and Background

Offset, born Kiari Kendrell Cephus, was treated at a hospital for injuries that police described as not life-threatening. His exact condition remains unknown, but he is stable. This incident comes more than three years after the tragic shooting death of his cousin Takeoff, another Migos member, who was killed as an innocent bystander at a Houston bowling alley in a dispute over a dice game.

Takeoff's death was part of a series of fatal shootings involving hip-hop stars in recent years, including Nipsey Hussle, Pop Smoke, PnB Rock, and Young Dolph. In response, the third Migos member, Quavo, held a summit against gun violence in 2024 to honor Takeoff and advocate for change.

Offset's Career and Personal Life

Offset first gained fame with Migos, an Atlanta trio celebrated for their rapid-fire triplet flow that significantly influenced trap music. Their career launched with the 2013 hit "Versace" and included multiplatinum singles like "Bad and Boujee," which topped the Billboard Hot 100 chart, as well as "Stir Fry," "Narcos," and "T-Shirt." The group released four full-length albums before disbanding after Takeoff's death.

As a solo artist, Offset has established himself with a unique melodic and aggressive style. He has released three albums: "Father of Four" in 2019, "Set It Off" in 2023, which he described as an effort to "bring rap back," and "Kiari" in 2025, which he called his "rebellion album" to express his true self.

In his personal life, Offset was secretly married to Cardi B in September 2017 in Atlanta. They have three children together, but in 2024, Cardi B announced that she had filed for divorce.

Ongoing Investigation

Police are continuing to investigate the shooting at the Seminole Hard Rock casino. The second person detained has not been charged, and authorities are working to identify others involved. The incident highlights ongoing concerns about violence in the entertainment industry and public spaces.
