RCMP have released new details regarding the fatal shooting of a suspect near Irricana, Alberta, on July 10, 2026. The incident occurred following a confrontation with police officers from multiple detachments.

According to RCMP, officers responded to a call about a suspicious vehicle on a rural road near Irricana, a town of approximately 1,200 people located about 60 kilometers northeast of Calgary. Upon arrival, they encountered a male suspect who was allegedly armed. An altercation ensued, during which officers discharged their firearms, striking the suspect. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) has been called in to investigate the shooting, as is standard procedure for police-involved deaths. RCMP have not released the identity of the suspect pending notification of next of kin.
