York Region investigates two overnight shootings, no injuries

York Regional Police are investigating two separate overnight shootings that occurred in Markham and Vaughan on June 26, 2026. No injuries were reported in either incident, according to police.

Markham shooting

The first shooting took place in Markham, where police responded to reports of gunfire in the area of Highway 7 and McCowan Road. Officers arrived to find evidence of a shooting but no victims. The investigation is ongoing, and police are canvassing the area for witnesses and surveillance footage.

Vaughan shooting

The second shooting occurred in Vaughan, in the vicinity of Jane Street and Rutherford Road. Similar to the Markham incident, police found shell casings and other evidence but no injured persons. Investigators believe the two shootings may be connected, but have not confirmed a link.

Police appeal for information

York Regional Police are urging anyone with information or dashcam footage from the areas at the time of the shootings to come forward. “We are asking the public for any information that could assist in identifying suspects,” said Constable Laura Nicolle in a statement. “No injuries is fortunate, but these incidents pose a serious risk to public safety.”

Police have not released any suspect descriptions at this time. The investigations are being led by the York Regional Police #1 District Criminal Investigations Bureau.
