Canada Day Closures and Reduced Hours in Winnipeg
Several Manitoba businesses and services will be closed or operating on reduced hours for Canada Day celebrations on July 1, 2026, according to a report by Kayla Rosen.
Government and Civic Services
All provincial government offices, including Service Canada and Manitoba Public Insurance (MPI) locations, will be closed. City of Winnipeg administrative offices, community centres, and libraries will also be closed. Garbage and recycling collection will be delayed by one day for the remainder of the week.
Retail and Shopping
Most major grocery stores and shopping malls, including Polo Park and St. Vital Centre, will be closed. Some convenience stores and drugstores may operate on reduced hours. Liquor Mart locations will be closed, but some private wine and beer vendors may be open.
Recreation and Attractions
The Forks Market and Canadian Museum for Human Rights will be open with special Canada Day programming. Assiniboine Park Zoo and the Leaf will operate on regular hours. City of Winnipeg outdoor pools, spray pads, and golf courses will be open, weather permitting.
Transit and Parking
Winnipeg Transit will operate on a Sunday/holiday schedule. Free parking at city-owned lots and meters will be in effect for the holiday.
Health and Emergency Services
All hospital emergency rooms and urgent care centres will remain open. Some walk-in clinics and pharmacies may have reduced hours; call ahead to confirm.
