An Ottawa man is facing 61 criminal charges in connection with a series of break-ins in the Vanier and Overbrook neighbourhoods, according to police.
Details of the charges
The Ottawa Police Service said the charges include 31 counts of break and enter, 18 counts of possession of stolen property, and 12 counts of failing to comply with a release order. The accused, a 38-year-old man, was arrested on June 20, 2026, following an investigation into multiple residential and commercial break-ins that occurred between January and June 2026.
Police allege the suspect targeted homes and businesses in the Vanier and Overbrook areas, stealing electronics, jewelry, and other valuables. Investigators recovered a significant amount of stolen property during a search of the suspect's residence.
Impact on the community
“These break-ins have caused significant distress among residents and business owners in these communities,” said Ottawa Police Constable Amy Gagnon in a statement. “We are pleased to have made an arrest and to have recovered stolen items.”
The accused appeared in court on June 21 and was remanded into custody. The investigation remains ongoing, and police are urging anyone with information to come forward.
