Extra garbage pickup offered after flooding in Windsor-Lakeshore

Residents of Lakeshore, Ontario, who experienced flooding over the weekend will receive additional garbage collection services to assist with cleanup, the municipality announced on July 9, 2026.

Extra pickup details

The extra collection will take place on Saturday, July 12, for regular household garbage only, with no limit on the number of bags. Residents are asked to place garbage at the curb by 7 a.m. and separate flood-damaged items from regular waste. Hazardous materials such as electronics, paints, and batteries will not be accepted.

“We understand the stress and inconvenience that flooding causes,” said a municipal spokesperson. “This extra pickup is intended to help residents dispose of damaged belongings quickly and safely.”

Flooding impact

The weekend flooding resulted from heavy rainfall that overwhelmed local drainage systems. Environment Canada reported that up to 100 mm of rain fell in some areas within 24 hours. Basement flooding and road closures were reported across the region.

Lakeshore Mayor Tom Bain urged residents to contact the municipality if they require additional support. “Our public works crews are working hard to clear drains and restore normal conditions,” he said.
