Toronto's Canada Day celebrations on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, feature major fireworks displays at Ashbridges Bay and Mel Lastman Square, along with numerous road closures and modified transit schedules. The city's 159th birthday will see crowds gather for the 10 p.m. fireworks at Ashbridges Bay, which are visible along the boardwalk from Emdaabiimok Avenue to Victoria Park Avenue.
Fireworks Displays
The City of Toronto's primary fireworks display takes place at Ashbridges Bay starting at 10 p.m. Spectators can view the show from the boardwalk between Emdaabiimok Avenue and Victoria Park Avenue. Officials recommend using public transit, and the TTC is adding extra buses on the 22 Coxwell and 92 Woodbine routes. At Mel Lastman Square, the 2026 Canada Day Celebrations at 5100 Yonge Street include a four-minute fireworks display scheduled for 10 p.m. Road closures will be in effect: Hillcrest Avenue between Yonge Street and Doris Avenue from 7 p.m. to 11:59 p.m. (local traffic only via Doris Avenue), and Yonge Street fully closed from Park Home Avenue to North York Boulevard (both directions) from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. TTC bus route 97 will detour from 8 p.m. around the affected area.
Road Closures and Transit
Queen's Park will host the 2026 Canada Day Celebrations at 110 Wellesley Street West, featuring a 21-gun salute at 12 p.m. The following road closures are in effect from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.: Hoskins Avenue from Tower Road to Queens Park Circle West; Queens Park Circle West from Hoskins Avenue to College Street; Queens Park Circle East from Wellesley Street West to College Street; Grosvenor Street from Queens Park Crescent East to Surrey Place; and Wellesley Street West from Queens Park Crescent East to Queens Park Crescent West. Bus routes on Avenue Road and Wellesley Street will use modified routes; check ttc.ca for details.
The TTC will operate on a holiday schedule with Sunday service hours starting around 6 a.m. GO Trains will run on a Saturday schedule, but Metrolinx advises checking routes as some lines do not offer weekend service.
What's Open on Canada Day
Several grocery stores and retailers will remain open, including Pusateri's, Rabba Fine Foods, Summerhill Market, T&T Supermarket, and The Wine Rack. Select Shoppers Drug Mart and Rexall locations will also be open. Major attractions open include the Aga Khan Museum, Arcadia Earth, Art Gallery of Ontario, Canada's Wonderland, Casa Loma, CN Tower, The Distillery Historic District, Hockey Hall of Fame, Museum of Contemporary Art, Ontario Science Centre (at Harbourfront), Ripley's Aquarium, Royal Ontario Museum, Toronto Zoo, Bramalea City Centre, Eaton Centre, Markville, Pacific Mall, Promenade Shopping Centre, Square One Shopping Centre, Toronto Premium Outlets, Upper Canada Mall, and Vaughan Mills.
What's Closed on Canada Day
All banks and government-run offices, including libraries, will be closed. The LCBO will not be open, and there will be no mail delivery. Shopping centres closed include Dufferin Mall, Fairview Mall, Lime Ridge Mall, Mapleview Centre, Scarborough Town Centre, Sherway Gardens, Shops at Don Mills, Yorkdale, and St. Lawrence Market.
