Calgary police are urgently searching for a driver who fled the scene after striking two pedestrians in a southwest Calgary intersection, leaving both victims with serious injuries.
The alarming incident occurred around 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday at the intersection of Richmond Road and 37th Street S.W. According to police, the two pedestrians were crossing legally when a vehicle struck them before speeding away from the scene.
Victims Rushed to Hospital
Emergency services responded quickly to the collision, transporting both injured pedestrians to hospital with what authorities describe as serious but non-life-threatening injuries. The victims, whose identities haven't been released, are currently receiving medical treatment.
"This is a troubling incident where a driver has chosen to leave vulnerable road users injured at the scene," said a Calgary Police Service spokesperson. "We're urging anyone with information to come forward."
Police Investigation Underway
Traffic investigators have closed the intersection for several hours to collect evidence and document the scene. Police are now reviewing nearby surveillance footage and seeking witnesses who might have captured the incident on dashcam or security cameras.
Authorities are particularly interested in speaking with anyone who might have seen a vehicle with fresh front-end damage in the area around the time of the collision.
What We Know About the Suspect Vehicle
While police haven't released a detailed description of the vehicle involved, they confirm it fled southbound on 37th Street S.W. immediately after the collision. Investigators believe the vehicle would show visible damage to the front end.
The Calgary Police Service traffic unit continues to follow multiple leads and is asking anyone with information, no matter how small it may seem, to contact them immediately.
