Burnaby RCMP is investigating a series of indecent acts reported in Central Park, prompting heightened patrols and a public appeal for information. The incidents, which include indecent exposure and voyeurism, occurred over the past several weeks, according to police.
Details of the Incidents
Police have confirmed at least four separate incidents between June and July 2026, all occurring in the park's wooded areas during daylight hours. In each case, a male suspect approached female victims, exposed himself, and in some instances, followed them before fleeing. No physical contact was reported.
“We are treating these incidents very seriously and have increased patrols in the area,” said Corporal Mike Kalanj of the Burnaby RCMP. “We urge anyone who may have witnessed suspicious activity to come forward.”
Investigation and Community Response
Detectives are reviewing surveillance footage from nearby trails and entrances but have not yet released a suspect description. The park, a popular recreational area, has seen an uptick in visitors during the summer months. Local residents have expressed concern, with some calling for better lighting and security cameras.
“It’s unsettling to know this is happening in a place where families go,” said Sarah Thompson, a frequent park user. “I hope they catch whoever is responsible soon.”
Police Advice and Next Steps
RCMP advise park-goers to remain vigilant, travel in groups, and report any suspicious behavior immediately. Anyone with information is asked to contact Burnaby RCMP at 604-646-9999 or Crime Stoppers anonymously.
