Provincial police have laid a homicide charge against a Lansdowne woman after discovering the body of her elderly mother during a wellness check earlier this week in Leeds and the Thousand Islands Township.
Wellness Call Leads to Tragic Discovery
Ontario Provincial Police officers responded to a wellness call on Tuesday. During that call, they discovered the body of a 73-year-old woman. The victim was later identified as Katherine Graham, 78, of Leeds and the Thousand Islands Township, which is located east of Kingston.
A postmortem examination conducted by the Office of the Chief Coroner and the Forensic Pathology Service confirmed the death was a homicide. Police have not released further details regarding the cause of death.
Daughter Arrested and Charged
On Wednesday, investigators arrested the victim's daughter. She is also named Katherine Graham, 43, of Lansdowne. She has been charged with first-degree murder.
The accused was scheduled for a court appearance at the Ontario Court of Justice in Brockville on Thursday.
Ongoing Police Investigation
The investigation is being led by the Leeds County OPP Crime Unit, under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch. They are being assisted by the OPP Forensic Identification Services.
