Toronto police are asking for the public's help in identifying a suspect wanted in connection with two sexual assaults in the midtown area. The incidents occurred on separate occasions in the vicinity of Yonge Street and Eglinton Avenue, a busy commercial and residential district.
Details of the Assaults
According to investigators, the first assault took place on the evening of May 15, when a woman was approached from behind and attacked near a residential building. The second incident occurred on May 17, in a similar manner, near a parkette off of Yonge Street. In both cases, the suspect fled the scene on foot. Police believe the same individual is responsible due to consistent descriptions and patterns of behavior.
Suspect Description
The suspect is described as a man in his 20s, with a slim build, standing approximately 5 feet 10 inches tall. He was last seen wearing a dark hoodie, jeans, and running shoes. Police have released a surveillance photo of the individual, though his face is partially obscured by a mask or hood.
Police Appeal for Information
Detective Constable Mark Thompson of the Toronto Police Service's Sex Crimes Unit emphasized the urgency of the case. "We are treating these assaults very seriously and are dedicating significant resources to identify and apprehend this suspect. We urge anyone with information to come forward," he said in a statement. Police are also advising residents in the midtown area to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity.
Community Response
Local residents have expressed concern over the incidents, with many calling for increased patrols and better lighting in the area. The Yonge and Eglinton neighborhood is typically considered safe, but these assaults have shaken the community. A community meeting is scheduled for later this week to discuss safety measures.
