A 26-year-old man from the Rideau Lakes area is now confronting a staggering 63 criminal charges, including attempted murder of a child, following a deepening investigation by the Leeds County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP).
From 14 to 63 Charges: A Case Expands
The accused was originally arrested in late September and faced 14 charges. However, in a news release issued on Tuesday, December 16, 2025, police revealed that their ongoing intimate partner violence and child abuse probe had resulted in 49 additional charges.
Investigators stated that five victims have been identified in connection with the case. To protect their identities, the name of the accused has not been released by authorities.
A Disturbing List of Allegations
The man now faces a long and serious list of charges. The most severe include attempt to commit murder and sexual assault on a person under 16 years of age.
The extensive list of charges also includes:
- Sexual assault and sexual interference
- 12 counts of assault causing bodily harm (choke, suffocate or strangle)
- 6 counts of assault with a weapon
- 14 counts of assault
- 16 counts of uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm
- 4 counts of forcible confinement
- Charges of extortion, intimidation, dangerous operation, mischief, and failure to comply with a probation order
Legal Proceedings Ahead
The accused remains in custody and is scheduled to make a court appearance in a Brockville courtroom in February. The Rideau Lakes community, located roughly 100 kilometres southwest of Ottawa, has been shaken by the severity and scope of the allegations.
This case underscores the complex and often hidden nature of investigations involving intimate partner violence and abuse, which can reveal multiple victims and a pattern of behaviour over time. The Leeds County OPP continues its work on the investigation.
