Bo Bichette made an emotional return to Toronto on Monday, playing his first game at Rogers Centre since being traded from the Blue Jays to the New York Mets last winter. The shortstop received a warm ovation from fans and went 2-for-4 with a double in the Mets' 5-3 victory.
Emotional Homecoming
“I gave it everything I had here, and the fans always supported me,” Bichette said after the game. “It’s special to be back.” Bichette spent five seasons with Toronto, earning two All-Star selections and batting .295 with 118 home runs. He was traded to the Mets in December 2025 as part of a blockbuster deal that sent several prospects to Toronto.
Strong Performance
In the sixth inning, Bichette lined a double to left field, driving in a run and sparking a rally. He also made a slick defensive play in the top of the seventh, ranging deep into the hole to throw out a runner. Mets manager Carlos Mendoza praised Bichette’s focus. “He was locked in tonight. You could see how much this meant to him,” Mendoza said.
Fan Reception
Blue Jays fans gave Bichette a standing ovation during his first at-bat, and many held signs thanking him for his years in Toronto. “It was overwhelming,” Bichette said. “I’ll never forget the love I received here.” The Mets improved to 45-35 with the win, while Toronto fell to 38-42.
