Late-Night McLaren Crash Near Casa Loma Leads to Impaired Driving Arrest
A shocking late-night incident near Casa Loma in Toronto ended with a bright orange McLaren sports car propped against a wall, two people hospitalized, and the driver arrested for impaired driving. Emergency crews were called to the intersection of Spadina Rd. and Austin Terrace, near Davenport Rd., just before midnight on Thursday after the high-performance vehicle struck a bike rack.
Details of the Crash and Injuries
Paramedics reported that a man and a woman were taken to the hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries following the collision. Toronto Police confirmed to 680 NewsRadio that the driver of the crashed McLaren was arrested on charges of impaired driving. While two McLarens were observed at the scene, authorities clarified that only one was involved in the crash, and it remains unclear if the second sports car played any role in the incident.
The cause of the collision is currently under investigation by police, who have not released additional details about those involved or the circumstances leading up to the crash. This event serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of impaired driving and the importance of road safety in urban areas.
Other Recent Police Incidents in the Greater Toronto Area
In a separate case in Ajax, an 87-year-old woman was arrested and charged with aggravated assault. Durham Regional Police responded to an assist ambulance call at a residence in the Keeble Cr. and Bennett Ave. area on Thursday evening, where they found a female victim with life-threatening injuries. The victim was transported to a trauma centre in critical condition but is now in serious but stable condition. The senior suspect, whose name has not been released to protect the victim's identity, was taken into custody without incident and is being held for a bail hearing.
Additionally, Halton Regional Police’s Internet Child Exploitation Unit concluded a months-long investigation with the arrest of Joseph Hunter, a 61-year-old Brampton man. Hunter faces multiple sex-related charges, including possession and making of child sexual abuse material, invitation to sexual touching, and two counts of luring a child under 16. He was also linked to a similar investigation by Hamilton Police and is being held in custody pending a bail hearing. Investigators have expressed concerns that there may be more victims and are urging anyone with information to come forward.
Firearms and Robbery Cases
In another incident in Ajax, a man and woman were arrested after firearms were allegedly found inside a vehicle with stolen licence plates. Durham Regional Police responded to reports of a suspicious vehicle with no lights driving onto a property in the Finley Ave. and Clements Rd. W. area at approximately 5:45 a.m. on Thursday. A female was found in the vehicle, which was determined to be stolen, and a male was later located on the property with break-and-enter tools, drugs, and shotgun shells. A search of the vehicle allegedly uncovered a shotgun and an imitation firearm.
Daniel Alexander Cabarios, 40, of Toronto, faces numerous break-and-enter and firearm charges, and was already under a weapons prohibition. Corrine Elizabeth Butler, 45, also of Toronto, has been charged with occupying a vehicle with a firearm, possession of property obtained by crime, break-and-enter, and possessing break-in instruments. Both suspects were held in custody awaiting a bail hearing.
Furthermore, a 14-year-old boy from Barrie was arrested for an armed robbery that occurred in Pickering earlier this year. Durham Regional Police reported that the incident took place on Jan. 29 in the area of Westcreek Dr. and Pine Grove Ave., where a male youth arranged to meet another to purchase shoes but was confronted by three masked males, one armed, who demanded cash. The victim was not physically harmed. The teenage suspect was charged with robbery with a firearm and possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000, and was held in custody for a bail hearing, while two other suspects remain at large.
