Drunk Father Details Fatal Shooting of Daughter Amid Political Dispute
Body camera footage has captured the harrowing aftermath of a Texas father shooting and killing his 23-year-old daughter during a heated argument over U.S. President Donald Trump. Kris Harrison, who admitted to being drunk at the time, described the incident to police, claiming the gun discharged accidentally as he showed it to his daughter, Lucy Harrison.
Fatal Incident Unfolds After Political Argument
According to reports from the N.Y. Post and BBC, the shooting occurred on January 10, 2025, in Texas. Kris Harrison, a British expatriate who moved to the U.S. when Lucy was a child, had relapsed into alcoholism and consumed three glasses of wine that day. He told authorities that Lucy asked if he had a gun, prompting him to retrieve a Glock 9mm pistol from a bedside cabinet.
"She said, 'Do you have a gun?' And I said, 'Yes.' I got it out and it just went off as she stood there, like as I pulled it out it went off," Harrison explained in the video released by Cheshire Coroner's Court. He insisted the weapon "must have been" loaded but claimed he did not intend to fire it.
Coroner Challenges Father's Account
Senior coroner Jacqueline Devonish disputed Harrison's testimony during court proceedings. She noted that Lucy was shot through the chest from across the bedroom, suggesting Harrison had to be pointing the gun directly at her. "To shoot her through the chest whilst she was standing would have required him to have been pointing the gun at his daughter, without checking for bullets, and pulling the trigger," Devonish stated. She described Harrison as a "functioning alcoholic" and accepted that he likely did not realize the gun was loaded, but highlighted inconsistencies in his story.
Family and Legal Aftermath
Lucy's boyfriend, Sam Littler, witnessed the event and told the court that the father and daughter had a "big argument" about Trump, who was about to be inaugurated for a second term. Lucy disagreed with her father's conservative politics, adding tension to the situation. Despite initial manslaughter investigations, a Texas County grand jury declined to indict Harrison in June 2025, ruling Lucy's death accidental. Her mother, Jane Coates, called the decision "baffling" and "beyond comprehension."
Background on Harrison's Health and Habits
Harrison has a history of alcohol-related issues, including an alcoholic seizure in 2023 that left him in an induced coma. On the day of the shooting, he drank 17 ounces of white wine but claimed he was not drunk when the incident occurred shortly before 3 p.m. The case has sparked discussions about gun safety, alcoholism, and the impact of political divisions within families.
