A commercial truck driver from Brampton is confronting serious criminal charges following a single-vehicle crash on a major Ontario highway this week.
Evenning Crash Leads to Arrest
On Tuesday, November 25, 2025, at approximately 7:00 p.m., officers from the Grenville County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police were dispatched to a report of a transport truck that had left the roadway on westbound Highway 401. The incident occurred near Augusta Township, located just east of Brockville.
Police arrived to find the large vehicle sitting in a ditch. Fortunately, the driver, a 39-year-old man from Brampton, emerged from the crash without any physical injuries.
Multiple Impaired Driving Charges Laid
The driver was arrested at the scene on suspicion of impaired operation. He was subsequently transported to a nearby Brockville police facility for further testing.
Following the completion of these tests, police formally charged Sukhjinder Singh Gill with a series of offences related to the incident. The specific charges include:
- Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle
- Operation while impaired by alcohol
- Operation while impaired with a blood alcohol concentration exceeding 80 milligrams
- Driving a motor vehicle with liquor readily available
- Driving a motor vehicle with an open container of liquor
Legal and Immediate Consequences
After being processed, Gill was released from custody with a scheduled court appearance at the Brockville courthouse on December 12, 2025.
The consequences for the accused were immediate. Under provincial regulations, his driver's licence was automatically suspended for 90 days. Additionally, the vehicle involved in the incident was impounded for a period of seven days.
Due to safety concerns and the timing of the crash after dark, the OPP made the decision to leave the heavy transport truck in the ditch overnight. The vehicle was scheduled to be safely recovered during daylight hours on Wednesday.
This incident serves as a stark reminder of the severe legal and personal repercussions of impaired driving, especially when operating a large commercial vehicle on one of Ontario's busiest transportation corridors.
