Calgary Police Seize $24,000 in Illicit Drugs Near Chinook Centre, Charge 39-Year-Old Man
Calgary police have made a significant drug bust, seizing more than $24,000 worth of dangerous narcotics and charging a 39-year-old man with multiple trafficking offences. The arrest occurred on March 24, 2026, following what officers described as proactive policing near the busy Chinook Centre in southwest Calgary.
Suspicious Activity Leads to Traffic Stop
According to the Calgary Police Service, officers conducting routine patrols observed a vehicle parked in an otherwise empty parking lot near Chinook Centre at approximately 9 p.m. on March 24. Their attention was drawn to two men who briefly met after one exited the vehicle, then walked away together.
"Believing the interaction to be consistent with a drug transaction, the officers conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle and arrested the driver," stated CPS in an official news release.
Substantial Drug Haul Discovered
During a subsequent search of the vehicle, police uncovered a substantial quantity of illicit substances with an estimated street value exceeding $24,000. The seized drugs included:
- 219 grams of crystal methamphetamine valued at approximately $4,370
- 151 grams of fentanyl valued at approximately $15,060
- 33 grams of crack cocaine valued at approximately $3,210
- 65 grams of oxycodone valued at approximately $1,620
In addition to the narcotics, officers recovered three scales and various other drug paraphernalia, further supporting trafficking allegations.
Multiple Charges Filed
As a result of the investigation, 39-year-old Landon William Henderson now faces serious drug-trafficking charges including:
- One count of possession of methamphetamines for the purpose of trafficking
- Two counts of possession of opioids for the purpose of trafficking
- One count of possession of crack cocaine for the purpose of trafficking
Henderson is scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday to answer to these allegations.
Proactive Policing Praised
CPS District 1 Inspector Jason Bobrowich commended the officers involved, highlighting the effectiveness of proactive policing strategies. "This investigation is a great example of proactive policing, where officers' presence and attention led directly to an arrest and a significant amount of illicit drugs being removed from our community," Bobrowich stated.
The Calgary Police Service emphasized that removing such substantial quantities of dangerous drugs from circulation represents a meaningful step toward community safety, particularly given the ongoing challenges posed by the opioid crisis and other drug-related issues affecting urban centers.
This case demonstrates how vigilant police work in commercial areas can disrupt drug distribution networks and prevent harmful substances from reaching vulnerable populations. The Chinook Centre area, being one of Calgary's major retail and transportation hubs, remains a focus for law enforcement efforts to maintain public safety and combat organized crime activities.
