A routine visit to a Calgary fast-food restaurant turned tragic this week when a physical altercation claimed the life of a 41-year-old man, leading to serious criminal charges.
Calgary Police Service responded to reports of an assault at a McDonald's location in the 300 block of 61st Avenue S.E. around 10:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Upon arrival, officers discovered an unresponsive man suffering from life-threatening injuries.
The victim, identified as Nicholas James Nembhard, 41, of Calgary, was rushed to hospital where he was later pronounced dead. The Calgary Police Service Homicide Unit immediately took over the investigation.
Suspect Appears in Court
Following their investigation, police arrested and charged 36-year-old Kenrick James Rusk of Calgary with manslaughter. Rusk made his first court appearance on Thursday to face the serious charge.
