Hamilton Regional Police have arrested and charged 34-year-old Joshua King Mcrea in connection with a sexual assault and child luring investigation. The arrest occurred on July 10, 2026, after police received reports that Mcrea allegedly contacted minors through social media platforms.
Details of the Charges
Mcrea faces multiple charges including sexual assault, child luring, making child pornography, and possession of child pornography. Police say the alleged offenses involved victims under the age of 16. The investigation began after a parent reported suspicious online interactions.
According to Detective Sergeant Sarah Thompson of the Hamilton Police Service's Internet Child Exploitation Unit, “Social media platforms are increasingly used by offenders to target vulnerable youth. We urge parents to monitor their children's online activity and report any suspicious behavior immediately.”
Ongoing Investigation
Police are continuing to investigate and believe there may be additional victims. They are asking anyone with information to come forward. Mcrea was held in custody pending a bail hearing scheduled for July 11. The case has been adjourned to August 15 for further court appearances.
Hamilton Regional Police released a statement emphasizing the seriousness of the charges and the importance of community vigilance. “We are committed to protecting our children and holding offenders accountable,” the statement read. “We encourage anyone who may have been a victim or has information to contact us.”
