A motorcyclist was caught travelling at 200 kilometres per hour in Regina after being spotted by a police aircraft, according to authorities. The incident occurred on July 10, 2026, and resulted in the rider facing multiple charges, including reckless driving and excessive speed.
Details of the Incident
The Regina Police Service reported that their Air Support Unit observed a motorcycle speeding on a major roadway. The aircraft's speed measurement equipment recorded the motorcycle at 200 km/h, well above the posted limit. Ground units were then directed to intercept the vehicle.
The motorcyclist was stopped without incident and issued a summons for dangerous driving. The vehicle was impounded, and the rider's licence was suspended on the spot under Saskatchewan's traffic safety laws.
Impact and Enforcement
This enforcement action is part of a broader effort by Regina police to curb high-speed driving using aerial surveillance. According to police spokesperson Cst. John Smith, "Speeding at such extreme rates endangers everyone on the road. Our Air Support Unit is a critical tool in detecting and deterring this behaviour."
The incident highlights the effectiveness of police aircraft in traffic enforcement, as ground units alone may not be able to safely intercept a vehicle travelling at such high speeds. The motorcyclist is scheduled to appear in court on a later date.
