Pakistan has shared with the United States a revised proposal from Iran to end the ongoing war in the Middle East, as peace talks appear to remain stalled. The development comes as the conflict enters its 80th day, with both sides under pressure to reach a resolution.
Details of the proposal
Tehran submitted its latest 14-point proposal through Pakistan, focusing on ending the war and building trust. A Pakistani source told Reuters on Monday that the proposal has been shared with U.S. officials. The source emphasized, "We don't have much time," noting that both countries "keep changing their goalposts" when asked about the timeline for closing gaps.
Iran's government stated that indirect diplomacy with the U.S., brokered by Pakistani intermediaries, is a continuous process. Tehran has conveyed its latest positions to Washington as both sides haggle over the terms of a prospective peace deal, according to CBS News.
Iran's military actions
Meanwhile, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) in Iran claimed it has struck U.S.- and Israeli-backed "counter-revolutionary terrorist groups" operating in northern Iraq. The IRGC's Hamzeh Sayyed al-Shuhada Command said in a statement that the groups were attempting to smuggle a large consignment of sealed American weapons and ammunition into the country. The command added that a large quantity of arms and ammunition was discovered and seized.
Pakistan's interior minister has extended his visit to Tehran for a third day, indicating ongoing diplomatic efforts. The situation remains fluid as the conflict in the Middle East continues to escalate.
