RCMP seize over $175K of illegal cannabis, vapes at Cornwall border

RCMP and the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) seized over $175,000 worth of illegal cannabis and vape products at the Cornwall, Ontario border crossing, according to a statement released Tuesday.

Details of the Seizure

The seizure occurred during a joint operation at the port of entry, where officers discovered a large quantity of unregulated cannabis and vaping devices concealed within a vehicle attempting to cross into Canada. The RCMP estimated the street value of the confiscated goods at more than $175,000.

“This significant seizure demonstrates our commitment to preventing the illegal importation of cannabis and vaping products,” said RCMP Corporal Tania Vaughan. “We work closely with CBSA to intercept these shipments and hold offenders accountable.”

Impact on Public Health and Safety

The illegal cannabis and vape products posed potential health risks, as they were not subject to Health Canada regulations. Unregulated vapes may contain harmful substances, and unlicensed cannabis bypasses quality controls. The RCMP noted that such products often fund organized crime.

“This operation disrupts the black market and protects Canadians from potentially dangerous goods,” added Vaughan. The investigation is ongoing, and no charges have been announced yet.
