New images released by Peel Regional Police show Jordan Sangwin, the 46-year-old fugitive wanted for the murder of his parents, appearing relaxed and smiling just three days after the alleged killings. The photos, captured on June 21 in Etobicoke, show Sangwin wearing a black designer T-shirt with a red and white insignia, shorts, and a small cut on the inside of his left knee.
Suspect still at large after 19 days
Sangwin has been on the run since June 18, when his parents, Carol Sangwin, 70, and Garwood (Gary) Sangwin, 71, were found with blunt force trauma at their Briarwood Avenue home in Mississauga. They later died in hospital. Police have charged Sangwin with two counts of first-degree murder.
“White, medium build with short salt and pepper hair and clean shaven. He was last seen wearing a grey long sleeve shirt, dark shorts and carrying a black duffle bag,” police said. “He is known to frequent the Lakeshore Road area of Mississauga.”
Recent sightings near High Park
For several days after the murders, there were no confirmed sightings, leading to speculation that Sangwin might be dead. However, on June 22, security cameras captured him near Ormskirk Park, west of High Park and Grenadier Pond in Toronto. Peel Homicide Inspector Mike Mavity confirmed that extensive searches have been conducted in the Morningside Avenue and South Kingsway areas, as well as inside High Park.
“Do not approach,” police warned. “Call 911 immediately if seen.”
Police believe Sangwin has been living outdoors, obtaining food and water from the land or garbage cans. He has not been seen using public transit, but sightings have been reported. He is believed to have walked from Mississauga to Toronto.
Background and public caution
Sangwin has no criminal record, but police have had previous interactions with him at his parents’ home. He is described as being between jobs and comfortable around the shores of Lake Ontario. The victims were beloved by their other children and grandchildren, described as warm and humorous.
Peel and Toronto Police urge the public to take precautions if walking in the area. There have been no reports of violence since the double murder, but Sangwin has shown a desire to evade capture. The investigation continues as authorities work to bring him into custody.
