Man Shot by Police After Surrey Stabbing Leaves One Dead

A man was shot by police in Surrey on Friday afternoon after an incident where two people were stabbed, one fatally, according to the Surrey Police Service (SPS).

Incident Details

At approximately 1 p.m., officers responded to a report of an assault in the 13300-block of Old Yale Road. Upon arrival, they discovered two individuals suffering from stab wounds. Emergency crews provided medical care, but one victim succumbed to their injuries. The other was transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The suspected attacker had fled the scene. Police located the male suspect a short distance away, and a confrontation ensued, resulting in officers discharging their firearms. The suspect was seriously injured and later died in hospital.

Investigations Underway

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) has taken over the investigation into the stabbing, while the Independent Investigation Office (IIO) of British Columbia is probing the police-involved shooting. Anyone with information about the stabbing is asked to contact IHIT at 1-877-551-4448.
